Welcome back to an exciting Term 6 in Winkelbury and Fosbury!

This term we are going to be learning all about people who help us. We will be learning all about the roles of the emergency services. Sadly, the fire brigade are unable to bring their fire engine to school for a visit because of Covid regulations. We are hoping that the PSCO’s will be able to come and answer all the children’s questions about their roles. The children will be learning about all the different ways the police help us.

We will also be learning about the important role of dentists – learning about how to look after our teeth.

The children will be learning about fiction and non-fiction text. We will be reading The Very helpful Hedgehog, Supertato, Midnight Superhero and My mum is a Supermum – which of course, you all are J

In addition to looking at non-fiction books and discussing the features we find in them e.g. contents pages, glossaries etc.

In PE this term we will be practicing sprinting, throwing, hurdles and obstacle races getting ready for sports day.

We have had a busy start to the second part of the Autumn term!

Reception went on a walk around the school grounds looking for signs of Autumn as part of their learning and also for their Enrichment Passport. The children brought in their wellies and luckily the sun stayed out!  The children noticed the changing colours of the leaves and collected fallen ones. They even took an Autumn photo on the ipad for their Enrichment Passport. We used the leaves they collected to make Autumn art work. Later they will use the leaves to try a leaf rubbing technique.

We have started our new topic on Celebrations and Festivals by celebrating Bonfire Night! We watched a firework display on the whiteboard before going on a walk of the grounds to find sticks. We created our own fireworks using junk modelling and generated sound words using our phonics skills! We’ve kicked off our Diwali celebrations with lots of pattern and colour around the classroom and even had a go at trying Indian food!
