At Amesbury CE Primary School we recognise that every child is unique.
Within our rich and varied curriculum, every child is given opportunities to succeed, within a safe, caring and stimulating environment, which should facilitate each child’s chance to reach the highest possible standards. Every child has full access to the entire curriculum during their schooling that is specifically planned around our school’s ethos; Kindness, Dignity and Endurance.
All teachers strive to identify and address any barriers that are preventing children from making the progress they are capable of. All staff are committed to meeting the needs of all our children. As a school, we recognise the importance of not only supporting children’s academic progress but also developing their behavioural, emotional and social skills to enable them to become confident, independent learners and well equipped citizens for our society.
The SEND team provides our teaching staff with a complementary collection of skills and knowledge.
Mr Humphreys (SENCo)
Mr Humphreys is our school SENCO. He is responsible for all children with an SEND need in our school. He will support children with EHCPs and those receiving SEN support in school.
Miss Holden (Inclusion Lead)
Miss Holden leads our Inclusion ethos at school. She is responsible for ensuring all classrooms are inclusive and accessible for all.
We work closely with our Pastoral Team;
Miss Batchelor (Pastoral Manager)
Miss Batchelor is our school Pastoral Manager. She is responsible for children’s behaviour, wellbeing and attendance. Miss Batchelor works closely with the SEND department.
Mrs McIlvar (Nurture)
Mrs McIlvar works in ‘The Bridge’ and is a member of our Pastoral Team. Mrs McIlvar supports a variety of children including those who require additional support.
Mrs Kinge (ELSA)
Mrs Kinge is our qualified Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) and works in our pastoral team supporting children require additional support.
Our Nurture Provision – The Bridge
For students with specific social and emotional needs, behaviour needs or for those who are experiencing a challenging time in their lives, our Nurture Provision is provided to address these needs that are acting as barriers to learning. The Bridge, our Nurture Room, is a place where students can communicate their needs with adults that they trust. By nurturing our students individual needs within a personal environment, The Bridge provides our pupils with the best possible chances of coping and succeeding within a mainstream classroom alongside their peers.

We are excited to see our newly developed Forest School area starting to take shape. It has been developed over the past year to enable children regular opportunities to take part in learning and play in a woodland environment.
Through our Forest School sessions children are encouraged to develop a love and understanding of the natural environment, whilst developing the core purposes of the Forest School ethos which include development of self-esteem, confidence and social skills.

We offer a variety of other interventions at our school. These may be an academic intervention or an intervention to support a child’s emotional development. Our intervention programme is adaptable to our children and their needs. Parents will receive the opportunity to discuss these interventions with their class teacher.
Our Parents and Further support
The SEND department strives to maintain strong and productive links with parent/carers. We believe that good home school links and communication are essential to a child’s emotional well-being and progress. It is important for us to know if parents require support in their dealings with the school and with your child’s education.
If you are concerned that your child may have an additional need or are concerned about their academic progress your first point of contact should always be your child’s class teacher. Your child’s teacher will be able to direct you towards our SENCo or Pastoral Manager if required.

The Local Offer
We are a fully inclusive school and work alongside the Local Authority, Health Professionals and community organisations to find the most appropriate and effective support for pupils within our care. As part of our SEND provision we signpost relevant and up to date support for our parents/careers through the Wiltshire Parent Carer Council (WPCC).
