Improving the provision of Physical Education and Sport in primary schools
The Government is providing additional funding to improve the provision of Physical Education and Sport in primary schools.
The funding (provided jointly by the Department for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport) will be allocated to primary school Headteachers who will have the freedom to choose how to spend the money. The funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on improving the provision of PE and Sport in schools. Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6. Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport we offer. The premium should be used to:
Ofsted assesses how primary schools use the primary PE and sport premium. They measure its impact on pupil outcomes, and how effectively governors hold school leaders to account for this.
